Much like Friday's 14-1 win over the Toreros, Pepperdine jumped on San Diego in the first inning. Chase Lambert led off the game with a double, Brandt Belk walked and Matthew Kanfer sacrificed the two to second and third before Jordan Qsar came through with a two-run single to left to give the Waves a 2-0 lead.
Pepperdine added to the lead in the second as Aharon Modlin singled to lead off the inning and was sacrificed to second on a Joe Caparis bunt. After a Lambert walk and a Belk line out, Kanfer singled up the middle on a ball that was stopped on a diving play by the San Diego shortstop " but a hustling Modlin beat the throw home and scored from second to make it 3-0 Pepperdine.
The Waves' final run of the game against San Diego starter Paul Richan (who also threw a complete game) came in the fifth as Qsar blasted a solo shot off the scoreboard in right to make it 4-0.
It was more than enough for Pendergast as at one point he retired 11 in a row and 20 of the final 22 Torero hitters.
The Waves go for the sweep of the Toreros 1 p.m. Sunday at Eddy D. Field Stadium as we Veterans Day at the Ballpark.
