WESTWOOD, Calif. " The top-ranked Pepperdine beach volleyball team was felled by No. 2 UCLA at the Sunset Canyon Recreational Center on Tuesday afternoon, after the Bruins took a 4-1 final result.

Corinne Quiggle and Deahna Kraft closed out the match with a hard-fought three-set win for the Waves (15-3) in the No. 2-spot over the Bruins (19-3).

MATCH RECAP

In a two-court format, UCLA came out firing on all cylinders. The Bruins took a win on court five to open the action, and continued in the second flight. After fighting in three-set matches, UCLA picked up the necessary wins to clinch the dual.

After a 4-0 Bruins' advantage, Deahna Kraft and Corinne Quiggle came out on court two ready to do battle. The Waves' pair won 21-17 in the opening set, but fell by the same result in the second. After going 13-13 and 15-15 with tied scores, the Waves' partnership closed the door and secured the 17-15 third set win to earn a point for Pepperdine.

NOTABLES

UCLA broke Pepperdine's 13-match winning streak with the win today.
The Waves No. 4 pair Skylar Caputo and Alexis Filippone lost their first match today, now holding a 17-1 overall record this season. The pair still ranks atop the country as a pair based on CollegeBeachVB.com.
Pepperdine's No. 2 pair Corinne Quiggle and Deahna Kraft are on a 14-match winning streak.
In 18 matches, the clinching match has fallen in the No. 2 position nine times, with the Waves collecting a 7-2 record on those occasions.
The Waves have a 14-3 record against ranked opponents and have gone 5-2 when facing teams ranked in the AVCA top-5.
Pepperdine is currently ranked No. 1 in the AVCA coaches poll.
