GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Pepperdine baseball team had an offensive explosion in a 12-2 win over East Carolina at Lewis Field at LeClair Stadium on Friday evening.
The Waves (4-6) posted an eight-run ninth inning to put the game out of reach for the Pirates (7-2). Mike Malinchak and Aharon Modlin each marked three hits for the Waves.

- Freshman outfielder Mike Malinchak (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage HS) had a career-high three hits, including a two-RBI triple in the ninth.
- Sophomore infielder Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
- Sophomore RHP Wil Jensen (Murray, Utah/Cottonwood HS) started on the mound for the Waves, giving up only one unearned run in six innings pitched.
- Junior outfielder Cory Wills (Henderson, Nev./Yavapai CC) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Junior outfielder Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) went 2-for-4 on the day, including a two-RBI double in the ninth.

The Waves got the scoring started in the third inning after Quincy McAfee hit a ball to shortstop with the bases loaded, scoring Modlin. The play continued, though, as Duncan McKinnon scored on a throwing error to give the Waves a 2-0 lead.
Modlin scored again in the fourth, this time on a sacrifice fly from Joe Caparis to give Pepperdine a 3-0 lead over the Pirates after four innings of action.
Jensen started on the mound for the Waves, and was relieved by Kiko Garcia in the sixth, finishing the day with a final line of 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K. The one run would come in the sixth, when an error resulted in a run.
Going into the seventh inning, the Waves held a 3-1 lead. The fourth run was scored in the seventh, on an error, pushing the lead back to three runs heading into the eighth.
After a scoreless eighth, the Waves came back in the ninth and scored four runs with no outs. Malinchak and Wills both walked to lead off the inning, and Modlin reached on a fielding error. McKinnon stepped up to the plate and was hit by a pitch, scoring Malinchak. A walk by Caparis scored another and Quincy McAfee was hit by a pitch to score the fourth of the inning.
After a strikeout, Qsar doubled down the right field line to plate both McKinnon and Caparis. Malinchak came up for his second at-bat of the inning and promptly sliced a triple down the left field line, scoring two more. Ben Slattery took the hill from Michael Mahony, who relieved Garcia, with a 12-2 lead. He would hold the Pirates to no runs, giving the Waves a 10-run victory.

The Waves are back in action tomorrow morning, when they take on Saint Joseph's at 9 a.m. (PT). They will finish the LeClair Classic on Sunday against Missouri State at 8 a.m. (PT).
