LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Kameron Edwards scored 25 points, Trae Berhow posted a career-high 23 points and the Pepperdine men's basketball team will play another day after a mild first-round upset in the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships on Friday night, 85-69 over Santa Clara at the Orleans Arena.
Pepperdine (6-25) shot 70.8% for the game, the third-best single-game performance in program history and a WCC Tournament single-game record. The Waves held seventh-seeded Santa Clara (11-20) to 41.9% shooting.
The 10th-seeded Waves will now play second-seeded Saint Mary's on Saturday evening at 9 p.m. There will be an audio-only WaveCasts and the game will be shown on ESPN2.

- Sophomore forward Kameron Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS) scored 25 points, his sixth time this season with 20 or more, and his most ever against a WCC team. He made 11 of 15 shots.
- Freshman guard Trae Berhow (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) made eight of 10 shots and five of six three-pointers for his 23 points. His previous career best was 15.
- Freshman guard Colbey Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS) scored 15 points and had seven assists.

- The Waves shot 15-for-22 (68.2%) in the first half and they were even better in the second half at 19-for-26 (73.1%).
- Pepperdine held Santa Clara to 33.3% shooting in the first half en route to a 38-24 halftime lead.
- The Waves also made seven of 12 three-pointers (58.3%).
- The Broncos stayed in the game with offensive rebounding, collecting 16 of them and outscoring the Waves 21-4 in second-chance points.
- Santa Clara put four players into double-figures, led by Matt Hauser's 15 points. All-WCC first team guard KJ Feagin scored 14 but was hounded into a 4-for-22 shooting performance.

The first seven-plus minutes was all Pepperdine, as the Waves jumped out to a 21-5 lead, making eight of their first nine shots while forcing the Broncos into 11 misses in their first 13 attempts. Edwards had eight points and Berhow sank two three-pointers during this early stretch. Later, the Broncos closed the gap to nine points on a couple of occasions, but the Waves went into halftime with a 38-24 lead.
After pushing the lead to 19 points at 46-27 on a Berhow three-pointer two minutes into the first half, the Broncos finally made a run, getting the deficit all the way down to seven points at 51-44 with 12 1/2 minutes to play. But Udenyi sank a three-pointer, and Edwards followed with a made jumper, which then led to a couple of Berhow baskets, and the 9-0 run pushed Pepperdine's lead back up to 16 at 60-44 with under 10 minutes left. The lead stayed in double-figures the rest of the way.

- Tonight's win was the Waves' first over a higher-seeded team at the WCC Tournament since 1996 -- when Marty Wilson was the interim head coach and his eighth-seeded Waves beat top-seeded Santa Clara.
- This was Pepperdine's first win away from Firestone Fieldhouse this season.
- Three scholarship players were unavailable tonight: Eric Cooper Jr. (shoulder), Harrison Meads (concussion) and Nolan Taylor (shoulder).This was the 24th time in 31 games that the Waves have had multiple key rotation players out.
