
#1 Pepperdine Ends South Carolina Trip with Two Wins

COLUMBIA, S.C. " Deahna Kraft and Corinne Quiggle clinched both of the top-ranked Pepperdine beach volleyball squad's wins on Sunday morning to close out the Gamecock Grand Slam, propelling the Waves to a 3-2 win over No. 7 LSU and a 4-1 victory over #11 Georgia State at Wheeler Beach.
The Waves have now won 13-consecutive matches for a 15-2 overall record this season, while also going 14-2 against ranked opposition. In the teams' 17 matches, the clinching decision has fallen on the No. 2 pair nine times.

LSU took the first sets in all three second flight matches. They picked up a second set win on court one to make it a 2-1 Waves' lead with two matches still in action. The No. 2 pair, Corinne Quiggle and Deahna Kraft flipped the script after a 21-13 first set loss to Olivia Powers and Hunter Domanski, winning the second 21-13. In the third, they dominated the sand en route to a 15-8 third set win to clinch the first overall match of the day. Despite a second set Waves' win to force a third set on court three, the Tigers had the momentum and put up a 15-13 third set win to make the score 3-2 overall.
In the second match against No. 11 Georgia State, Pepperdine dominated from the beginning, winning the first flight handily. Caputo and Filippone finished first with a 21-18, 21-16 win over Amie Held and Kate Novack in the No. 4-slot. Lyons and Dilfer were also commanding the court against Ashley McGinn and Eden Hawes on court five, posting a 21-16, 21-12 win to put the Waves' up 2-0 heading into the second flight for the second time today.
The Waves came out strong in the second flight, opening with a quick 21-10, 21-11 win from Kraft and Quiggle over Tiffany Creamer and Brooke Weiner at the No. 2 position to clinch the second match. Heidi Dyer and Gigi Hernandez also won in two sets to make it a 4-0 Waves' lead after downing Georgia Johnson and Olivia Stasevich 21-17 and 21-3 on court three. The Panthers wouldn't go quietly, however, as they took a three-set battle win with 19-21, 23-21, 15-13 set scores off the Waves at the No. 1 position to end the day 4-1.
