
Women's Hoops Wins in WCC First Round

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Yasmine Robinson-Bacote scored 23 points and Kim Jacobs and Paige Fecske combined for nine three-pointers to lead the Pepperdine women's basketball team to a 74-63 victory over Santa Clara in the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships on Thursday afternoon in the Orleans Arena.
The Waves' trio combined to score 58 of the team's 74 points, giving first-year head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones a victory in her WCC Tournament debut. Eighth-seeded Pepperdine improved to 10-19 and ended ninth-seeded Santa Clara's season at 9-21.
The Waves made a season-high 10 three-pointers.
Pepperdine next takes on the WCC's regular-season champion, top-seeded Gonzaga, on Friday at noon in the quarterfinals.

- Junior forward Yasmine Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) scored a game-high 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting, and she got her ninth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.
- Junior guard Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) scored 20 points and made four three-pointers on eight attempts.
- Senior guard Kim Jacobs (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) added 15 points after making five of seven three-pointers.
- Sophomore guard Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had eight assists.

- Pepperdine shot exactly 50% in both the first half and the second half. The Waves held the Broncos to 39.0% shooting.
- The Waves made 10 of 21 three-pointers (47.6%), while the Broncos were at 4-for-19 (21.1%).
- Santa Clara got 20 points from Kyla Martin and 19 from Morgan McGwire.

Tied at 7-7, back-to-back Fecske three pointers put Pepperdine up 13-7, and the lead grew to 17-8 and 19-12 at the end of the first quarter. All of the first-quarter points were scored by Fecske (10) and Robinson-Bacote (nine).
Jacobs hit two three-pointers and Robinson-Bacote had the other two baskets in a 10-2 second-quarter run, which grew the Waves' lead to 13 at 29-16 midway through the frame. Pepperdine went into the break with a 34-22 advantage. Robinson-Bacote (13), Fecske (10) and Jacobs (nine) were the only three Waves to score in the first half until Monique Andriuolo made a jumper right before halftime.
A Jacobs' three-pointer gave the Waves their biggest lead of the game at 15 at 40-25 with eight minutes left in the third quarter. But Santa Clara came right back with an 11-2 run to get the lead down to 42-36, and later made it a two-point game at 44-42. The Waves went into the final quarter with a 49-44 lead.
Every time the Broncos got close, the Waves responded with a big shot. At 49-46, Fecske hit a three. At 57-53, Robinson-Bacote scored on a jumper. At 61-57, Jacob nailed her fifth three-pointer, starting a 7-0 run that pushed the lead back into double-figures at 68-57 with a little more than a minute to go, putting the game out of reach.
