  • After a dramatic and historic win over rival Loyola Marymount two weeks ago, the Pepperdine men's basketball team will try to make it a season sweep of the PCH Cup series on Saturday afternoon in Gersten Pavilion.
  • Saturday's game will be shown on TheW.tv. There will also be an audio-only WaveCasts with Al Epstein at PepperdineWaves.com.
  • The last time these two teams met, the Waves were down three with 4.5 seconds left and sent to the free throw line. After making the first, the second was purposefully missed, and it was tipped back to Trae Berhow for a game-winning three-pointer.
  • That was Pepperdine's 100th win in the series, which is now 100-67 in the Waves' favor. Pepperdine has won nine of the last 11 overall but has lost two straight at LMU.
  • After two previous seasons of dealing with major injury hits, things haven't been going well again in 2017-18. Eleven of the 13 scholarship players have missed at least one game due to injury or illness, and the Waves have been without multiple key rotation players 18 times in 25 games. There has been a total of 62 player-games lost.
  • Three Waves missed Thursday's San Diego game: Trae Berhow (ankle), Harrison Meads (concussion) and Nolan Taylor (season-ending shoulder surgery).
  • Colbey Ross is currently the top freshman in the WCC in both scoring (14.4, seventh overall) and assists (5.5, second overall, 41st nationally). He's the only Wave to start all 25 games. He has matched Jeremy Major's Pepperdine freshman record for assists at 138.
  • On Thursday, Amadi Udenyi became the fourth Wave in program history to record 400 career assists.
  • Matthew Atewe is coming off career highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds in Thursday's game against San Diego.
  • Newcomers to the lineup this season have scored 68.3% of the points.
  • Pepperdine has a home game against BYU coming up on Thursday.

PCH CUP -- An annual all-sport competition between two local rivals that are separated by just 19.1 miles of scenic coastline, the PCH Cup is in its ninth season of existence. Pepperdine has won six of the eight years that this competition has been held. A home win is worth one point, a road victory is worth 1.5 points. LMU leads this season, 5.5 to 5.0.

PEPPERDINE -- Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #46 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
