MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team split a doubleheader with Louisiana Tech on Saturday at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Bulldogs took the first game, 3-2, and the Waves won the second game, 1-0.
The Waves (2-1) and Bulldogs (1-2) complete the series on Sunday, with a game at 11 a.m.

- Junior righty Jonathan Pendergast (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) threw 5.2 innings of relief in the first game, giving up only one run, and striking out six.
- Junior pitcher Christian Stoutland (Calabasas, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) started the second game, going 6.1 innings, giving up no runs on three hits, and striking out three in the win.
- Senior outfielder Josh Davis (Tulsa, Okla./Union HS) went 2-for-3 in the first game, notching two singles, and scoring a run.
- Sophomore infielder Duncan McKinnon (Manhattan Beach, Calif./ Redondo Union HS/Purdue) had an RBI squeeze bunt in the second inning of the second game, giving the Waves the 1-0 lead that would hold all game.

In the first game of the day, the Waves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, when Davis singled through the 5-6 hole. He advanced to second on a balk, and was singled in by Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS). Freshman Cooper Chandler (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland HS) started on the mound for the Waves, going 3.1 innings with two earned runs in his first collegiate start.
The Bulldogs tied the ball game up in the third inning, when Mason Robinson was doubled in by Mason Mallard. Louisiana Tech scored again in the fourth, when two batters were hit by pitches and one was scored on an RBI groundout from Hunter Wells.
In the fifth inning, Louisiana Tech scored the third and deciding run on a dropped third strike that skirted to the backstop.
The Waves mounted a comeback in the ninth inning. After two walks to start the inning, Modlin sacrificed his at-bat, bunting and moving runners to second and third. An RBI groundout from McKinnon got the Waves to within one run, but another groundout ended the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Waves took another early lead, this time on an RBI safety squeeze bunt from McKinnon in the second, scoring Davis who walked, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error from the opposing pitcher.
Stoutland started the game on the mound for Pepperdine, going 6 1/3 innings, giving up no runs on just three hits. Two of the hits came in the first inning, when the Bulldogs got runners to first and third before a 6-4-3 groundout ended the threat.
Michael Mahony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) came into the game in the seventh inning with a runner on second and one out. He got a groundout that moved the runner to third, then struck out the second Bulldog he faced, ending the inning. Kiko Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS) came on in the eighth inning, and got a six-out save, giving up only one hit.
