
Lahey Clinches, Waves Advance to ITA Indoor Semifinals

MADISON, Wis. " Sophomore Ashley Lahey clinched the No. 6 Pepperdine women's tennis team's 4-2 win over No. 7 Georgia Tech at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Saturday afternoon to advance the Waves to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships semifinal.
The Waves (5-0) earned the doubles point early against the Yellow Jackets (4-1) with a pair of wins over ranked opponents, including a Lahey, Mayar Sherif victory over No. 3 Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones on court one. The team continued with winning ways in singles en route to an exciting 4-2 win as No. 27 Lahey clinched the match on court one with a 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 win over No. 24 Hourigan.

Dzina Milovanovic and Evgeniya Levashova were neck-and-neck with No. 52 Ida Jarlskog and Johnnise Renaud early on, eventually seeing an even 6-6 tied score to reach a tiebreak opportunity. After going down 5-4 in the break, the Waves continued to hang with the Yellow Jackets, tying things up and going point-for-point en route to an 8-8 tie. The Pepperdine pair then plastered the final two points on the board for a 10-8 final tiebreak and the 1-0 Waves' lead heading into singles action.
In singles play, the opposition was the first to score and even the match with a two-set win on court five. Levashova was quick to establish another Waves' lead with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 win over Viktoria Flores on court four. No. 20 Sherif then put her team in a position to clinch with a solid 6-2, 6-3 win over Renaud on court two. Georgia Tech was able to get the second and last win of the day with a three-set battle on court six leaving two matches left in action including Lahey on court one.
No. 27 Lahey went down 6-1 in the first set against No. 24 Hourigan, but bounced back in the second with a well-played and hard-fought 7-6 set win with a dominating 7-2 tiebreak. In the final set, the Wave went ahead early and continued to work to her advantage en route to a 6-2 final set score and the 4-2 Waves' win.
