PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves came out strong in the first set, but the Zags came out strong as well, and each side battled through tied scores until the 18-18 mark. Kills from
Alli O'Harra and
Shannon Scully helped Pepperdine pull away late in the action. Despite Gonzaga staying close behind throughout, the Waves put the set away 25-20 with a strong service presence from
Hana Lishman and back-to-back kills from
Hannah Frohling and Scully.
Pepperdine had the momentum after set one, and used it to have a big presence in the second. After a 6-6 tied score, O'Harra and Scully collaborated on a big Malibu Roofing Company block effort to set the tone and kills from Frohling and
Blossom Sato propelled the Waves to a solid 19-13 advantage. Late in the action, a dominant block from Frohling and Wylie helped the cause and a final kill from Scully gave the Waves a 25-16 set win.
With a 2-0 advantage, the Waves were fueled by the earlier advantages and a big service output from Wylie, including an ace and blocks from
Heidi Dyer and O'Harra, helped the Waves to a 9-2 lead early on. More solid attacks from Frohling and Scully were integral throughout the set and along with third ace from Wylie late in the action, Pepperdine pulled ahead 22-13. Wylie and Frohling would go back-to-back to deliver the final kills of the match and shut the night down with a 25-15 set win for the sweep.
