WAVEPOINTS
• After a difficult few days for the Pepperdine community, the men's basketball team has left town for a week-long road trip, which starts Tuesday night at Northern Colorado.
• This will be the Waves' second game of the season, but it was supposed to be the third. Saturday's planned home game vs. CSUN was postponed due to the wildfires affecting the Malibu area.
• The Waves will be on the road for just over a week, as they'll head from Colorado to the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase in Nassau for three games this weekend.
•
Lorenzo Romar's second stint as head coach at Pepperdine began successfully last Wednesday with a season-opening win against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Romar now has 392 career wins, eight shy of a milestone 400.
• This is the third meeting between the Pepperdine and Northern Colorado, with the Waves looking to avenge last year's two-point loss in Malibu.
• Four Waves reached double-figures in a 100-66 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday, led by
Eric Cooper Jr. with 20,
Jade' Smith with 18,
Darnell Dunn with 17 and
Colbey Ross with 15.
• Cooper Jr. sank a career-high six three-pointers to become the first Wave to make six in a game since December 2013.
• Eight Pepperdine freshmen made their college debuts and scored a total of 30 points, led by eight apiece by
Kessler Edwards and
Jackson Stormo. Edwards also had 13 rebounds.
• Ross, a two-time Colorado state player of the year, heads back to his home state to play collegiately for the first time.
• The Waves hope to stay healthy after being decimated by injuries the last two years. They lost 99 player-games in 2016-17 and 81 in 2017-18. But, last year's leading scorer,
Kameron Edwards, missed the season opener (concussion).
