
Waves Fall to Dons on Last-Second Shot

SAN FRANCISCO " The Pepperdine women's basketball team fell in a heartbreaker at San Francisco on Saturday afternoon, losing 68-67 after Anna Seilund hit a last-second shot for the Dons.
The Waves drop to 6-8 overall, 2-2 WCC, while San Francisco moves to 7-8 overall, 2-2 WCC. Pepperdine made a strong push in the third quarter to overcome a six-point deficit, but fell just short in what turned into a back and forth game in the final period. A pair of missed free throws proved costly in the final minute for the Waves.

• Yasmine Robinson-Bacote also scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds.
• Tylinn Carter scored 11 points and was tied with Robinson-Bacote for the team lead with five rebounds.

• Pepperdine was 4-for-9 from three and the Dons went 5-for-17.
• San Francisco won the rebounding battle 33-27.
• The Waves finished with fewer turnovers (13-17) in the game, but the Dons scored 19 points off of Pepperdine turnovers to just 10 points for the Waves off of turnovers.

The Waves led after one quarter of play, but San Francisco came back to take a 34-31 advantage into the half. The Dons would push that to a six-point advantage midway through the third quarter, but Pepperdine came back to outscore San Francisco by 11 points over the final five minutes of the period and take a 57-52 lead into the fourth. The Waves outscored the Dons 26-18 overall in the third quarter.
San Francisco tied the game with just under five minutes to play, but the Waves would hold them off until the final minute when Seilund hit two free throws to tie the game with 21 seconds to play. The Waves went 1-for-2 on two trips to the line in the final 26 seconds, including a final time with 5.3 seconds left to make it a 67-66 game. After the Dons advanced the ball, Seilund got the inbounds at the top of the key and drove her way to the basket for the game-winning layup.
