MALIBU, Calif. " After senior Mayar Sherif won her match on court three and clinched the sweep over Oregon for the 6th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team, the Waves earned a bid to the ITA National Team Indoors for the second-consecutive year.

The Waves (2-0) dominated doubles and singles action over the Ducks (3-1) to win the ITA Kick-Off Weekend championship match-up with a 4-0 sweep at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Pepperdine now advances to the ITA National Team Indoors hosted by the University of Wisconsin from February 9-12.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

Luisa Stefani and Mayar Sherif opened doubles action with a quick 6-1 win over 17th-ranked Oregon pair Alyssa Tobita and Shweta Sangwan on court one. The tandems on courts two and three were more even throughout. After 5-5 ties on each court, Ashley Lahey and Adijana Lekaj battled for a 6-6 tiebreaker on court three against Paiton Wagner and Daniela Nasser. Each side worked for four points in the tiebreak, but the Waves then buckled down and secured the next three points for the 7-6 (4) final decision. With the win, Pepperdine earned the early 1-0 advantage heading into singles action.

No. 28 Lahey and Evgeniya Levashova made quick work of their opponents on courts two and six respectively. Lahey downed Julia Eshet with a 6-2, 6-0 final mark, while Levashova put down Julia Lilien with a 6-1, 6-3 final mark.

No. 31 Sherif and Stefani each were in a position to clinch on courts three and one. Sherif would do the duty, however, after collecting 6-3 and 6-1 set wins over Shweta Sangwan. Stefani finished with a 6-3, 5-3 unfinished final score.

NOTABLES

This is the second-consecutive season the Waves have both hosted and won their ITA Kick-Off Weekend regional.
This is the fifth-straight ITA Kick-Off Weekend match that the Waves have won by sweep.
The Waves have four ranked in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, #28 Ashley Lahey, #31 Mayar Sherif, #44 Dzina Milovanovic and #57 Laura Gulbe.
Senior Gulbe leads the team with 13 wins this season in tournament play.
In duals, Luisa Stefani, Ashley Lahey, Mayar Sherif, Adrijana Lekaj and Evgeniya Levashova have all collected dual wins this season.
This is only the third match that Stefani and Sherif have been paired in doubles all-time, collecting a 3-0 doubles record thus far.

Next, Pepperdine hosts UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The week after, the team will travel to Madison, Wis. to compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
