Pepperdine Alum Zach Vincej Called Up by Reds

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine baseball alum Zach Vincej received his first call up to an MLB roster on Friday when the Cincinnati Reds made a late-season roster move to add the former Pepperdine infielder.
Vincej had been playing for the Reds' triple-A affiliate Louisville Bats this season, where he has posted a .270 average with 38 RBI and 36 runs scored. When he makes his debut, Vincej will be the 34th major league player Pepperdine has produced. The last Wave to make a big-league debut was Jon Moscot, who also came up for the Reds back in 2015.
Vincej was both an All-American and Gold Glove honoree during his time at Pepperdine, and snagged the Brooks Wallace Award as the nation's top collegiate shortstop as a junior in 2012. After batting .339 and helping the Waves to a WCC title, he was selected in the 2012 draft by the Reds and has steadily progressed through the organization's farm system, reaching triple-A at the start of this season.
The young infielder has played the majority of his time at short, but has had starts at both middle-infield positions during his minor-league career. Vincej will be with the Reds tonight when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road at 4:05 pm (PT).
