May 3, 2017 MALIBU, Calif. -- Eight student-athletes from the Pepperdine men's and women's tennis teams garnered West Coast Conference All-Academic honors, as released by the league on Wednesday. Four received first team recognition, while four were tabbed honorable mention.
The first team honorees were Guilherme Hadlich and Pedro Iamachkine from the men's squad and Christine Maddox and Laura Gulbe from the women's team. The Waves that earned honorable mention status were Lautaro Pane of the men and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai, Luisa Stefani and Dzina Milovanovic on the women's side.
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must have at minimum a 3.20 grade-point average, have at least sophomore standing and have participated in at least 50 percent of the season's events.
Hadlich, a senior, has posted a 3.645 GPA in International Business, while junior Iamachkine has produced a 3.491 grade-point average after working towards a degree in Business Administration.
Hadlich recently received his second Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award with a semifinalist nod this season. He was recognized as a sport winner for men's tennis in 2016. Also in 2016, he garnered ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete honors. He is a two-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and three-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree with two silver accolades and one bronze. This season, he has posted a 12-8 singles dual record and a 16-4 doubles record alongside partner Gabriel Sidney.
Iamachkine also earned a spot on the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award, with a second team nod for men's tenins. He is a two-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll bronze honoree. This season, he has tabbed a 13-7 dual singles record and a 12-9 dual doubles output.
Junior Pane has amassed a 3.359 GPA while studying Economics. Pane picked up Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award third team acclaim for his efforts. He is a two-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll bronze selection and has earned Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete once. This season, he has posted a 7-9 dual singles record and an 11-4 dual doubles record for the Waves.
For the women, senior Maddox has amassed a 3.538 grade-point average while studying Sports Medicine and junior Gulbe has produced a 3.579 GPA while learning International Studies and Management.
Maddox is now a three-time WCC All-Academic first team honoree with honors in 2015 and 2016, as well as this season. She is a two-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and a three-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll silver honoree. This season, she currently ranks 7th in the Oracle/ITA doubles rankings and has ranked as high as No. 3 nationally in doubles along with partner Mayar Sherif this season. She has marked an 8-3 dual singles record and a 14-3 dual doubles record this season thus far.
Gulbe earns her second All-Academic first team honor this season. She was an ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete in 2016 and has garnered WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll honors twice, with one silver and one bronze honor in 2016 and 2015 respectively. On the court, she is currently ranked 86th in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings and has posted an 11-5 dual singles record and a 4-3 dual doubles record for the Waves.
Senior Runglerdkriangkrai and sophomore Stefani have each posted a 3.327 grade-point average in the field of Advertising and sophomore Milovanovic rounds of the five women with a 3.206 GPA after studying towards a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications.
Runglerdkriangkrai was tabbed an ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete and earned WCC All-Academic honors in 2016. She earned Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar recognition for the sport of women's tennis in 2016 and recently again in 2017. She is a two-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and a three-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll bronze recipient. On the court, the senior has amassed a 10-7 dual singles record and a 12-7 dual doubles record for Pepperdine. She currently ranks No. 45 with Stefani in the Oracle/ITA doubles rankings.
Stefani garnered Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete recognition after her freshman campaign and tabbed WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll bronze recognition in 2016 as well. She also earned Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar honors for women's tennis this season. On the court, she is an ITA All-American in singles and was named ITA National Rookie of the Year in 2016. This season, Stefani has posted a team-high 14-3 dual singles record and a 12-6 dual doubles record for the Waves. She currently ranked No. 12 nationally in singles along with her national ranking with Runglerdkriangkrai.
Milovanovic earns her first academic honor with the honorable mention nod. She earned All-WCC second team honors in both singles and doubles in 2016. This season, she has posted an 11-3 dual singles record and in doubles has amassed an 11-5 record for the Waves.
