MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team fell 3-0 to Saint Mary's to open their three-game West Coast Conference Series on Friday afternoon.

Pepperdine recorded six hits in the game, but couldn't push any runs across as the Waves left 11 runners on base. Saint Mary's moves to 32-17 overall with the win and 14-8 WCC, while Pepperdine falls to 19-28, 7-15 WCC.

Ryan Wilson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) got the start for the Waves, tossing 7.0 innings and giving up three runs on nine hits, and Christian Stoutland (Calabasas, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) and Benjamin Slattery (Geneva, Ill./Geneva HS) each tossed perfect relief innings to keep Pepperdine close the entire way.

Johnny York got the win for the Gaels, throwing 6.0 shutout innings and giving up four hits. Ken Waldichuk got the save for the visitors, tossing the final 3.0 frames in which he allowed just two hits and no runs.

Saint Mary's struck first on a sacrifice fly in the third inning and then added runs in the fourth and seventh on RBI singles. Joe Vranesh was 3-for-4 with one RBI for the Gaels, finishing a home run shy of the cycle.

Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) had the lone two-hit day for Pepperdine. The Waves had runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but were unable to convert, including a bases loaded situation with one out in the second.
