April 21, 2017 MALIBU, Calif. - Head Coach Marcelo Ferreira and the Pepperdine men's tennis team announced the signing of Brian Berdusco to a national letter-of-intent during the spring signing period on Friday morning.
"I am so excited to announce Brian as our new signee," said Ferreira. "We are very fortunate to be the program he chose to represent. He embodies everything that we are looking for in a student athlete at Pepperdine.
"One of the things that caught my attention the most about Brian and peaked my interested in him, is his passion for competition. I haven't met many players that enjoy competing as much as he does and I know that with the structure and level of competition he will be exposed to at Pepperdine he will thrive tremendously. I am looking forward to coaching him and watching him fight for the Waves."
Berdusco, originally from Bradenton, Fla., will graduate from Laurel Springs School in California in May. He also attended Saint Stephen's Episcopal School in Bradenton through half of junior year. He helped lead Saint Stephen's to team, singles and doubles state titles as a sophomore and to a second place finish as a freshman.
"I chose Pepperdine because of the opportunity to work with two amazing coaches, Marcelo and Martin and to be part of the Pepperdine culture," said Berdusco.
Berdusco is currently ranked a career-best No. 23 nationally in his class at TennisRecuiting.com. He ranks 6th in the Southeast and 4th in Florida. His USTA standing is currently 156.
The Florida native has collected an overall record of 34-14 in juniors' action, including an even 5-5 record against Blue-Chip competitors, an 11-3 record against 5-star competitors, a 9-3 record against 4-star and a 9-3 record against 3-start or unranked opponents.
Berdusco won the Cabo Rojo Grade 5 ITF in Puerto Rico in September in 2016, defeating Ignacio Garcia in the finals. He was also a finalist in the Delray Beach Grade 4 ITF in May 2016, falling to Nicolas Mejia. He also most recently reached the quarterfinals at the USTA Men's $25,000 Future Wildcard Tournament in Little Rock, Ark. in early April.
