After dropping the doubles point, despite an Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai and Laura Gulbe 6-2 victory on court three over Gracia Mboko and Sonja Radosevic, to start singles action with a disadvantage.
The Waves (6-4) wouldn't take no for an answer in singles action, posting six victories in under two hours, including five two-set wins over the Pioneers (7-5).
Opening the singles' winning on court six was senior Christine Maddox, who dominated her opposition Arisha Ladhani with a pair of 6-2 sets to tie the overall dual 1-1. The Waves 15th-ranked freshman Ashley Lahey finished shortly after with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court two over Maureen Slattery to earn Pepperdine the first lead of the day.
On court four, 80th-ranked Gulbe bested Sonja Radosevic 6-3, 6-1 to extend the Waves' lead even further; and her doubles partner, Runglerdkriangkrai, tallied the overall clinch with a pair of 6-4 sets on court five over Gracia Mboko to put the Waves up 4-1.
The winning ways were over, however, as 27th-ranked junior Mayar Sherif defeated Bianca Mok with a 6-4, 6-2 final mark to push gap 5-1. Pepperdine's 6th-ranked sophomore Luisa Stefani was still in action in her third set on court one after winning the first set 6-4 and falling in the second 3-6. She went point-for-point to the 3-3 mark with Julia O'Loughlin, but then shut the door and eventually hit the 6-4 mark to propel the Waves to a 6-1 final dual victory.
The Waves are back in action on Sunday, March 12 at 1 p.m. as Pepperdine hosts UC Santa Barbara at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Follow WavesTennis on Facebook and Twitter for immediate updates, results and more.
