MALIBU, California " On a night where the Pepperdine men's basketball team announced that it had lost a third starter to a season-ending injury, the Waves fell 78-49 to #20 Saint Mary's in West Coast Conference play on Thursday.

The Gaels (25-3, 15-2) outshot the Waves (9-20, 5-12) 52.5% to 29.3%, which was a season low for Pepperdine.

Senior forward Chris Reyes (La Verne, Calif./Damien HS/Utah), the team's second-leading scorer and top rebounder, will miss the remainder of the season due to a heel injury. The graduate transfer last played seven minutes against Santa Clara a week ago.

Along with Amadi Udenyi (Achilles tendon), and Kameron Edwards (jaw), who have missed either most or all of the season, the Waves are without three-fifths of the expected starting lineup. The Waves had only eight available scholarship players and started two walk-ons tonight.

Senior guard Lamond Murray Jr. (Los Angeles, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) had a team-high 17 points and six rebounds. He now has 590 points, ninth-most in a single season in Pepperdine history.

Senior guard Jeremy Major (Pasadena, Calif./Maranatha HS) was the second-leading scorer with eight points. He made his 121st career start, tying the Pepperdine record held by Levy Middlebrooks.

On the plus side, the Waves committed a season-low six turnovers while forcing 11, which led to a 13-7 advantage in points off turnovers. But everything else broke the Gaels' way, including rebounding (47-29), three-pointers (nine to four) and points in the paint (44-16). Most of the damage was done by Saint Mary's center Jock Landale, who had 23 points and 14 rebounds.

"We've been through some adversity, being undermanned, but you can't dwell on that or it overwhelms you," Pepperdine Coach Marty Wilson said. "You have to be disciplined. We were initially, but we had some breakdowns that allowed them to get some easy shots. That's what they do. They handle the ball screen as well as anyone I've seen. They're patient and they wait for you to make a mistake."

Saint Mary's never trailed and had a 37-21 halftime lead.

The game was delayed for about 15 minutes in the second half due to a brief power outage that affected the campus and surrounding area.

The Waves conclude the regular season and have their Senior Game this Saturday (Feb. 25) against San Francisco at 1 p.m. The game will be shown locally on Spectrum SportsNet. There will also be an audio-only WaveCasts with Al Epstein at PepperdineWaves.com.
