SANTA CLARA, California " The Pepperdine men's basketball team's three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end due to Santa Clara's record-breaking long-distance performance in a 106-55 defeat in West Coast Conference play on Thursday night.

The Broncos (15-13, 9-6) made a remarkable 22 three-pointers, smashing both the previous Santa Clara record of 16 and the short-handed Waves' (9-18, 5-10) previous opponent record of 17. Santa Clara made 61.1% of its long-range shots (22-for-36), and shot 63.9% overall.

Freshman forward Nolan Taylor (Keller, Texas/Keller HS) had a team-high 14 points for the Waves, followed by 12 for senior guard Lamond Murray Jr. (Los Angeles, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) and a career-high 11 by senior guard Jonathan Allen (Nashville, Tenn./Ravenwood HS). Pepperdine shot 41.2% as a team and made just three three-pointers.

Santa Clara's Nate Kratch scored a career-high 32 points on 13-for-16 shooting with five three-pointers. KJ Feagin made all six of his three-point attempts for 18 points. Seven different Broncos made a three-pointer.

Both teams made their first two shots, and then it was all Santa Clara from there. With SCU up 5-4, Kratch scored the next five points and didn't let up. The Broncos made 10 of their first 12 shots and led 25-10 after eight minutes. A 10-0 run made it 44-14 with 8:19 left. Another 10-0 run to close the half made it 54-19 at the break. Kratch outscored the Waves in the first half by himself with 24 points. Santa Clara shot 75.0% and made nine threes, while the Waves were at 36.0%.

The Broncos continued to pour it on for the entire second half, making 13 more three-pointers and shooting 54.5% after the break.

Per the usual, Pepperdine had only nine scholarship players while dressing 11. Senior point guard Amadi Udenyi (Achilles tendon), sophomore forward Kameron Edwards (jaw) " both expected starters -- and freshman guard Kaijae Yee-Stephens (ankle) all remain out.

The Waves play their final regular-season road game on Saturday (Feb. 18) at rival Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. The game will be shown on Spectrum SportsNet and there will also be an audio-only WaveCasts with Al Epstein at PepperdineWaves.com.
