MALIBU, California " Following the Pepperdine women's soccer team's 4-0 victory over Portland that closed out the regular season and wrapped up the West Coast Conference title, senior defender Jamie Van Horn has been awarded WCC Player of the Week honors.
Van Horn (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley HS) was instrumental as the Waves extended their school record with their 13th shutout of the season, and she also contributed offensively with a second-half goal via a penalty kick.
Van Horn is the fourth different Wave to be recognized by the WCC this season. Goalkeeper Brielle Preece (Sept. 11), midfielder Bri Visalli (Oct. 16) and forward Joelle Anderson (Oct. 23) were the previous honorees.
After taking part in Saturday's pregame Senior Day ceremony, Van Horn was part of a defensive effort that limited Portland to just two shot attempts. The Pilots had zero shots for the first 80+ minutes of the game. The 4-0 win was Pepperdine's largest ever against Portland.
Van Horn has started all 19 games this season for the 12th-ranked Waves (14-2-3, 8-0-1). She has two goals and one assist while helping Pepperdine to a 0.31 goals-against average, which ranks third nationally. The Waves posted eight shutouts in their nine WCC games, and outscored league opponents 29-1.
The NCAA Tournament selection show will air today at 1:30 p.m. at NCAA.com.
