LOS ANGELES " The No. 18 Pepperdine women's soccer team picked up a hard-fought rivalry win over Loyola Marymount on Sunday, winning 1-0 on a 74th minute goal from freshman Calista Reyes.
It was the eighth shutout of the year for the stingy Pepperdine defense, running the team's current consecutive scoreless minute streak to 434. The Waves have not allowed a goal since the start of West Coast Conference play, moving to 9-2-2 overall and 3-0-0 in conference action.
Reyes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) got a pass from Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./Harker School) at the top of the box and ripped a shot just inside the right post for her third goal of the year midway through the second half. Brielle Preece (Livermore, Calif./Granada HS) had to make four saves to pick up the shutout in goal, including a fantastic one-handed stop just off the end-line in the 76th minute to preserve the clean sheet.
The Waves, who busted into the rankings at No. 18 this past week, sit tied atop the WCC standings with San Diego.
