LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team picked up a 4-1 win at UCLA on Tuesday, scoring three runs in the final two innings to break a 1-1 tie and grab the non-conference road win.

The victory moves the Waves to 23-20 on the year and drops UCLA to 23-23. The two teams split their season series, with each team winning on the road.

The Bruins got on the board first with a run in the second inning. Sean Bouchard tripled to lead off the inning and then a Kort Peterson single scored the run. The Waves would Peterson on second to end the inning without any further damage.

Pepperdine got the run back two innings later, evening the game with a run in the fifth. The Waves got runners on first and second with one out thanks to a walk and single. Ben Rodriguez (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) drove in the run with a soft fly ball that fell into shallow center for a two-out RBI single.

The Waves had a good opportunity to break the tie in the top of the seventh, getting runners on first and second with no outs. UCLA would get out of the inning, however, striking a batter out and then turning a double play to strand a runner. Pepperdine returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning, picking off a runner at second to stifle a Bruin opportunity.

The Waves again got two runners on early in the eight, putting runners on the corners on with no outs this time. Aaron Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to squeeze home the go-ahead run from third.

Pepperdine added insurance runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Chris Fornaci (Walnut Creek, Calif./De La Salle HS) and then scoring on a passed ball.

Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) posted his best start of the year, going 6.0 innings, giving up three hits and one run, while striking out four and walking just one. He would take a no-decision. Max Green (Rolling Hills Estate, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula HS) replaced Lucas to start the seventh, going 1.1 innings, giving up just one hit and no runs to grab the win. Kiko Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS) came in with a runner on and one out in the eighth, and induced a double-play to end the inning. Ryan Wilson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) took the hill for the Waves in the ninth,

Matthew Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) posted the lone two-hit day for the Waves and three different players drove in runs. The Waves outhit the Bruins 7-4 in the game. Four different UCLA pitchers recorded hits against the Pepperdine pitching.

The Bruins used nine different pitchers in the midweek contest. Jake Bird took the loss, falling to 1-4. Green moved to 3-0 with the victory. It was Wilson's sixth save of the year.

The Waves will be back in action this weekend when they head to first-place Saint Mary's for a three-game WCC series starting on Friday. All three games can be seen live on TheW.tv.
