Final Stats

MALIBU, Calif. - The 53rd-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team battled the elements and the Bulldogs of Gonzaga this Saturday afternoon, eventually coming away with the 5-1 West Coast Conference victory at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

Due to the long six-hour rain delay, both teams elected to play singles first to clinch in an attempt to get the match in before more weather struck.

Freshman Jack Van Slyke (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Laurel Springs HS) started the Waves off on court four after dominating Emilio Moreno with a 6-4, 6-2 final decision to bring the home team up 1-0 early.

On court one, junior Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) was the next Wave up to the task as he went head-to-head against Jordan Smith. Hadlich downed his opposition with a pair of 6-4 sets to extend the Waves' lead to 2-0 on the day.

The Bulldogs then earned the team's first point of the afternoon with a two-set 7-5, 6-4 win on court three to close Pepperdine's advantage to a one-point lead.

Pepperdine would be quick to go ahead by a two-point margin, however, as junior Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) crushed his opponent with a 6-2, 6-1 result to bring the Waves up 3-1 with two courts still in action.

Sophomores Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) and Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) were the final two Waves on the court and both with advantages in the finals sets.

Pane had dropped his first set 3-6, but rallied back to annihilate the competition in the second set 6-1 over Ruadhan O'Sullivan. He then battled through his third and final set to a 6-2 win to clinch the overall Pepperdine victory.
