FINAL RESULTS
PORTLAND, Ore. - The ninth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis squad defeated West Coast Conference opponent's Portland 4-2 this Friday afternoon at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. After clinching the doubles point, the Waves went on to battle and beat the Pilots in singles play with wins on courts two, three and five.
The Waves (14-2, 4-0 WCC) opened the day by clinching the doubles point over the Pilots (4-11, 1-3 WCC) with wins on courts one and two. First 14th-ranked Matea Cutura and Christine Maddox downed Radina Dimitrova and Tatiana Grigoryan with a 6-2 result. Then 17th-ranked Luisa Stefani and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai put down Lucia Butkovska and Tori Troesch with a 6-4 win to put the Waves up 1-0 on the day.
The Pilots then picked up the team's first point of the afternoon with a win on court one, before Dzina Milovanovic came back in her match Maya Mladenovic on court three to win 7-6, 7-5 and extend Pepperdine's lead by one yet again. Shortly after on court four, Portland evened the score again at the 2-2 mark.
Laura Gulbe was up to the task on court two. After going down 4-6 in the first set, the sophomore battled back from a deficit in the second to overcome Dimitrova 7-6 and send the match to a third. She would then down the opposition 6-3 to put Pepperdine up 3-2 in the match with two Waves still playing.
The Waves would clinch the match on court five as Runglerdkriangkrai defeated Troesch 7-6 in the first set and 6-3 in the second set.
