MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Baseball team hosted its annual John Scolinos Alumni Game and Awards Dinner this past weekend.

The current Waves once again came out on top in the alumni game, putting up 24 runs, and Kolten Yamaguchi was awarded the John Scolinos Award at the dinner that followed.

The bats of the current Waves quickly came alive in the bottom of the first inning of the alumni game, scoring 10 runs, highlighted by a double off the wall by Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS). Later in the game, home runs by Josh Davis (Tulsa, Okla./Union HS), Ben Rodriguez (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS), and Chase Lambert (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) added to that lead. Freshman pitcher Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) started the game for the Waves and gave a strong three innings.

At the awards dinner that followed, 2015 alum Kolten Yamaguchi was given the John Scolinos Award. Given annually since 2005, the John Scolinos Award recognizes one Pepperdine Baseball student-athlete for his exemplary behavior during a season or career. The recipient is honored for demonstrating strong character traits, including humility, resourcefulness, loyalty, honesty, work ethic, Christian behavior and sportsmanship.

Yamaguchi played for the Waves from 2012-2015, bringing power with the bat while also giving the Waves a lot of time behind the plate. Over the course of his four years in Malibu, Yamaguchi had a batting average of .253 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI in 127 games played. He is currently still on site as an undergraduate assistant.
