Waves Off to Great Start at Southwestern Jones Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. " The Pepperdine men's golf team had a terrific first day at its own Southwestern Jones Invitational, firing an 11-under over two rounds to move into second place on Monday.
With a 24-under 552, sixth-ranked USC has opened up an enormous lead at the par-72 North Ranch Country Club. Only the Waves, with an 11-under 565 (285-280) are reasonably close. San Diego State sits in third place with a 4-over 580.
The third and final round will begin with tee times off the first and 10th holes at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. USC, Pepperdine and SDSU will begin on the first hole at 9 a.m.
Freshman Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) is in fourth place with a 6-under 138 (70-68). He had four birdies and an eagle during his morning round, and five more birdies in the afternoon. He trails the leader, USC's Jonah Texeira, by two shots.
Senior Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) is tied for eighth place with a 3-under 141 (72-69), as is freshman Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS), who shot 71-70. Wedel had six birdies in the first round and two birdies and an eagle in the second. Cootes had a total of six birdies on the day, plus an eagle during the second round.
Junior Robbie Geibel (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage HS/Louisville) is tied for 24th place at 147 (72-75) and freshman Lorenzo Magagnin (Treviso, Italy) is tied for 29th at 148 (75-73). Geibel had eight birdies on Monday and Magagnin had three.
Playing as individuals, junior Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) is tied for 29th place at 148 (77-71) and sophomore Anthony Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) is tied for 47th at 152 (76-76). McManus had eight birdies on the day.
