MALIBU, Calif. -- The Pepperdine baseball team suffered a 3-0 loss at home to CSUN on Tuesday afternoon, leaving six runners on base in the non-conference contest.

The Waves matched the Matadors' six hits in the game, but got no extra-base hits and didn't push a runner past first after the second inning. Pepperdine falls to 2-2 on the year, while CSUN improves to 2-2.

The Matadors broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a pinch-hit RBI single from Nolan Bumsted. CSUN had the bases loaded with no outs, but Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) got a popup in foul territory and then a strikeout, before giving way to Evan Dunn (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS) who got the final out on a fly-out to limit the damage.

CSUN would get solo homers in the sixth and ninth to seal the win.

The Pepperdine pitching kept the game close for most of the afternoon, with the freshman lefty Lucas getting the start. Lucas tossed 4.2 innings, giving up one run and three hits, while striking out six in his first collegiate start. Ryan Wilson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) took over for the final four innings on the mound, giving up three hits and two runs.

The Waves loaded the bases and threatened with one out in the second inning, but a double play would end the threat. Pepperdine grounded into three double plays on the day. The Waves would put the leadoff runner on twice the rest of the way, but left men on first in five of the last six innings.

Chase Lambert (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) and Matt Gelalich (La Verne, Calif./Bonita HS) each had two-hit days for Pepperdine, with Gelalich getting on base all three times he came to the plate. Branden Berry went 2-for-3 for the visitors.

The Waves will be back in action this weekend as they host No. 4 Texas A&M for the three-game series starting on Friday at 2 p.m.
