Wedel Shares Second-Round Lead at Prestige at PGA West

LA QUINTA, Calif. " Frederick Wedel is in a three-way tie for first place after Tuesday's second round of The Prestige at PGA West, and the Pepperdine men's golf team remains in sixth place as a team.
Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) will be going for his second career victory when the tournament concludes on Wednesday at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West. He has an 8-under 134 (66-68) and is tied with San Diego State's Ryann Ree and LSU's Zach Wright.
Wedel was 2-over after six holes but recorded five birdies the rest of the way, including three straight on holes 10, 11 and 12. He had a total of six birdies on the day en route to a score of 3-under. It was Wedel's 36th career below-par round, giving him sole possession of fifth place on the Waves' all-time list.
The Waves improved their team score by eight strokes but couldn't make any move in the standings. They have a 4-over 572 (290-282). All five teams ahead of Pepperdine are ranked in Golfstat's top 30.
Also in the lineup, freshman Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) is tied for 33rd place at 146 (75-71), junior Robbie Geibel (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage HS/Louisville) is tied for 36th at 147 (75-72), freshman Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) is tied for 46th at 149 (78-71) and sophomore Anthony Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) is tied for 68th at 154 (74-80).
Cootes recorded five birdies on Tuesday while Theegala had four and Geibel had three.
Also, freshman Lorenzo Magagnin (Treviso, Italy), playing as an individual, is in 78th place at 161 (82-79).
