MALIBU, Calif. -
The No. 43-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team worked towards an exciting finish this Thursday afternoon at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center as the Waves defeated UNLV, 5-2.

Sophomore Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) was more than clutch for the Waves (2-3, 1-0 WCC), first picking up a doubles win, 6-2, with partner Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) to help the Waves to a doubles point over UNLV (4-2) to start the day.

Later in the match, with the Waves holding a close 3-2 lead over the Rebels, Iamachkine became the deciding point between the Rebels evening the score or the Waves winning the day. He faced off with Adam Gage-Brown of UNLV after a 1-1 tie. He then dominated the competition towards a 6-0 set three mark to clinch the Waves victory.

On the day, the Waves came out strong in doubles, advancing ahead on all courts. Sophomore pair Iamachkine and Pane finished first for the home team, amassing a commanding 6-2 win over Alexandr Cozbinov and Richard Solberg.

Jack Van Slyke (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Laurel Springs HS) and Tom Hill (Birgmingham, England/K12 International Academy) then secured the doubles point for Pepperdine with a 6-4 win over Adam Gage-Brown and Evaldo Neto to put the Waves up 1-0 on the day.

Pepperdine held together on the singles side as well. Pane advanced the Waves to a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ruben Alberts on court three. The Rebels found their first point of the day shortly after with a 4-6, 3-6 over the Waves' Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./Fusion Academy) to bring the score to 2-1 Pepperdine.

The home team then built a 3-1 lead over the Rebels as Van Slyke downed Richard Solberg, 6-4, 6-2 before UNLV would find their next win. Evaldo Neto bested Gabriel Sidney (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil/Anglo Americano), 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (5), which left Iamachkine and Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) looking at deciding match rights.

Iamachkine went down 7-5 in the first set, but came back strong with an equal 7-5 win in the second set. He then dominated Adam Gage-Brown towards a 6-0 third set win to secure a Waves victory on the day.

Hadlich also had a close match throughout, working with an even 1-1 split as he won the first set 6-4 and lost the second 3-6. He and UNLV's Jakob Amilon then went point-for-point in the third set to reach the tie-break option. Hadlich pulled out the 7-6 win after dropping Amilon 7-5 in the tie-breaker, giving the Waves a 5-2 victory.
