
No. 19 Pepperdine Garners First Win over Houston, 5-0

FORT WORTH, Texas - It was a successful day in Texas for the No. 19-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team, as the Waves earned an uncontested 5-0 win over unranked Houston this Saturday afternoon.
Pepperdine, now 1-1 on the 2016 spring dual campaign, came back from a tough 4-3 loss to No. 18 Ohio State yesterday, to dominate Houston (0-3) on the courts today.
The Waves began the match in doubles competition this morning and started the day with a 6-3 victory from No. 45-ranked duo sophomore Laura Gulbe and freshman Dzina Milovanovic over Rocio Martin and Marnie Stokes. Success continued for Pepperdine as the No. 8-ranked partnership including junior Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai and freshman Luisa Stefani posted a solid 7-5 win over Mina Markovic and Maria Cardenas to clinch the doubles point.
The Waves continued the strong road-performance on the singles side, begin with a No. 96-ranked (singles) Milovanovic win over Maria Cardenas 6-2, 6-0. No. 14-ranked Stefani then bested No. 34 Despoina Vogasari with a 6-4, 6-2 result to go up 2-0 in singles over UH.
Pepperdine garnered the uncontested victory after No. 102 Gulbe dominated Tina Rupert 6-4, 6-1 and senior Matea Cutura put down Mina Markovic 7-5, 6-3.
Next, the Waves will continue playing on the road with a USC dual on January 29 (Friday) at 1:30 p.m. before returning to Malibu to open at-home competition with San Diego at 1 p.m. on January 31 (Sunday).
