MALIBU, Calif. - Bri Visalli picked up the second WCC Player of the Week honor for a Pepperdine women's soccer player today after helping lead the team to an impressive 1-0-1 week.
The 19th-ranked Waves beat Toledo 3-0 and then tied the No. 1 team in the country, Virginia, 2-2 to move to 4-1-1 on the season. Visalli tied for the team lead on the week, scoring a goal in each game.
The sophomore midfielder opened the Waves' win over Toledo with a strike from outside the box that ended up being the game-winner in the shutout victory. Her first score of the season came in the second half of that game and opened up the largest scoring output of the season for the Waves.
Visalli (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) then scored in the 81st minute of a thrilling draw against top-ranked Virginia. Her goal was again a long shot from outside the box that found the upper left corner and put the Waves ahead with less than 10 minutes remaining before Virginia would equalize minutes later on a free kick.
Pepperdine players have taken home two of the first three weekly honors for the conference so far this year, with Hannah Seabert (Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian HS) earning player of the week in the first week of the season.
After playing five of their first six games at home, the Waves hit the road for their next three contests. All three will be against Pac-12 opponents, with Pepperdine heading to the Arizona Tournament next weekend to face Arizona State and Arizona. The Waves then head to UCLA the following week for a matchup on the Pac-12 Network.
