TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 14 Pepperdine women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 win over previously undefeated Arizona on Sunday at the Arizona Cats Classic. The Waves scored early in the second half before the match was called in the 79th minute due to lightning.
Mikayla Arcebido scored her first career goal to lead the Waves to victory and help the team move to 5-2-1 on the year. Arizona falls to 5-1-1 with the loss.
Arcebido (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon HS) scored an unassisted goal in the 47th minute after the Arizona keeper lost control of the ball in the box. The freshman midfielder gathered the loose ball and scored the only goal of the game just minutes after the half started.
Arizona would put up seven shots after the Pepperdine score, but Hannah Seabert (Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian HS) made four saves for the Waves before the game was called in the 79th minute.
Seabert finished the game with six saves, recording her fifth shutout of the season. The Waves have only allowed goals in three of their eight games so far this season.
Pepperdine was outshot 13-6 in the game, but managed to limit the quality attempts for Arizona. Arcebido's goal was the lone shot on target for the Waves.
Pepperdine plays its next contest at UCLA on Thursday before a 10-day break in the team's schedule. The Waves' game against the Bruins will also be shown on the Pac-12 Network. Pepperdine returns from its break to play Cal Poly at home (Sept. 27) before starting conference play.
