Moyer Selected by Angels in Seventh Round of MLB Draft

June 9, 2015

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine junior Hutton Moyer was selected in the seventh round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.

Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) went 225th overall in the draft.

The Waves' second baseman earned All-West Coast Conference first team honors each of the last two years. He led the WCC in home runs with 14 in 2015, a figure that is also tied for eighth place in program single-season history. He also led the WCC in RBI (45), runs scored (91) and total bases (124). Moyer batted .295 and had a slugging percentage of .564.

Moyer helped lead the Waves to back-to-back WCC Tournament championships and an NCAA Regional victory in 2014. He earned All-NCAA Regional honors at Cal Poly in 2014 and at Cal State Fullerton in 2015.

Moyer's father, Jamie, had a 25-year career in the Major Leagues as a pitcher.

It's the 42nd time that a Wave has been drafted during Steve Rodriguez' tenure as head coach, and the 152nd time a Pepperdine player has been taken since the draft was instituted in 1965. It's the first time since 1990 that the Angels have picked one of Pepperdine's players.

Rounds 11 through 40 of the MLB Draft will be held on Wednesday and additional Waves are expected to hear their names called.
