June 5, 2015 MALIBU, Calif. - Former Pepperdine standout Jon Moscot will make his Major League debut tonight as he was called up today by the Cincinnati Reds. Moscot will get the start on the mound against the San Diego Padres.
Moscot will be the 34th player in Pepperdine history to appear in the Major Leagues. He is the fifth former player to have played under current head coach Steve Rodriguez to play in the majors.
Moscot made nine starts in Triple-A for the Louisville Bats this season, going 7-1 with a 3.14 ERA. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft by the Reds.
The right-hander played two seasons for the Waves after transferring from Cuesta College prior to the 2011 season. He finished his collegiate career with a 3.42 ERA and nine victories. Moscot posted a 2.90 ERA as a junior in 2012 before being drafted by the Reds, leading the WCC with 115.0 innings pitched en route to all-conference first team honors. His final collegiate game was a complete-game victory over Michigan State in the NCAA Regional.
He will be the first Wave to make his MLB debut with the Reds. Moscot is the 14th-ranked prospect in the Reds system. Moscot's seven wins are tops in the International League and his ERA is good for 15th.
The Reds take on the Padres today at 4:10 PM (PT) in Cincinnati.
