LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Pepperdine baseball team suffered a 10-2 loss to the No. 2-ranked UCLA Bruins on Tuesday.

The Waves left nine runners on base in the game, scoring their two runs on seven hits. UCLA posted 11 hits in the game. The teams combined to use 12 pitchers in the game, with the Waves sending five to the mound and UCLA sending seven.

The loss drops Pepperdine to 24-22 on the season, while the Bruins improve to 34-11. The Waves will resume WCC play this weekend with a three-game series at San Diego starting on Friday at 6 p.m. Pepperdine sits 1.5 games behind the Toreros for first place in the conference standings.

The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead with three hits in the bottom of the first. Ty Moore added a three-run homer in the second inning, giving him four of the Bruins' first five RBI. UCLA put up six runs before the Waves finally got on the board. A Manny Jefferson (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS) sacrifice fly made it 6-1 in the fourth.

Pepperdine struck again in the top of the sixth, getting an RBI single from Kolten Yamaguchi (Kona, Hawai'i/Konawaena HS) to make it a four-run game. The Waves loaded the bases in the inning, but a strikeout and a popup left the bags full. Trent Chatterton would answer the run with a solo-homer in the bottom of the inning for UCLA. The Bruins tacked on two more runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth to make it a 10-2 game.

Yamaguchi was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Waves with one RBI and Max Green (Rolling Hills Estate, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula HS) had the longest outing on the mound for Pepperdine, giving up two hits and one run in 3.0 innings of work.

Moore was 2-for-4 with four RBI for UCLA. The Bruins had three players drive in multiple runs.

Pepperdine has seven games remaining in the regular season and just one non-conference contest left. Following their series at USD, the Waves return home to host Cal State Northridge for a Tuesday game and then Gonzaga for a three-game series.
