MALIBU, Calif. -- Aaron Barnett picked up his second academic award this season, earning WCC All-Academic honors. Barnett boasts a 3.71 GPA as an economics major at Pepperdine.
Barnett was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team earlier this month. The Waves' sophomore catcher also earned honorable mention on the All-WCC list this week.
This season he is third on the team with a .299 batting average, posting a team-high 51 hits. He is the sixth-toughest player to strike out in the country this year, averaging 19.5 at-bats per strikeout. Barnett has been a mainstay in the middle of the Waves' lineup this year, starting 50 of the team's 56 games so far.
Barnett was a Freshman All-American last season as he helped to guide the Waves to an appearance in the NCAA Super Regional.
The Waves open WCC Tournament play this week, taking on BYU tonight night at 7 p.m.
