Men's Golf Signs Lorenzo Magagnin of Italy

May 21, 2015

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine men's golf coach Michael Beard added a third member to his incoming recruiting class recently with the signing of Lorenzo Magagnin of Italy.

A native of Treviso, Italy, Magagnin joined the Italian National Team at the end of 2012 and has competed at 10 international tournaments across Europe and the United States.

"Lorenzo will be a great addition to our program," said Beard, who recently led the Waves to the 2015 West Coast Conference title and to an NCAA Regional berth. "He has competed well in many of the top junior events in Europe with the Italian National Team. Lorenzo is very dedicated to his academics as well as to becoming a better golfer. I am looking forward to the impact that he will have on his teammates, in the classroom and on the golf course."

Magagnin's victories include the 2012 PGAI JF Tournament, the 2002 CDM IT Official Tournament, the 2013 SZ Cervia IFJ Tournament and the 2013 Z3 Match-Play Junior Championship. He was a semifinalist at the 2011 Italian U-16 Championship. In 2014, he tied for 26th at the Austrian International Amateur, tied for 30th at the Swiss International Championship and reached the Round of 32 at the Boys Amateur Championship. He has rated among the top 20 amateur golfers in Italy.

"I chose to attend Pepperdine because of the prestige of the university, the best coach, the amazing location, the great golf opportunities and the business connections," Magagnin said.

In the fall, Beard signed Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) and Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) to national letters-of-intent.
