MALIBU, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference released its 2015 postseason baseball awards today and seven Waves were honored, with Hutton Moyer and Brandon Caruso taking home All-WCC first team accolades.
Jackson McClelland was named to the All-WCC second team, and Jordan Qsar and Ryan Wilson grabbed All-Freshman Team honors. Aaron Barnett and Matt Gelalich received honorable mention for the Waves, who finished second in the WCC regular-season standings.
Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) leads all regular starters for the Waves this season with a .307 batting average. His 58 hits are tied for the team lead and his 19 doubles are tops on the squad and second in the WCC. The sophomore outfielder has driven in 22 runs and hit three homers and two triples so far this season. He was named to the All-WCC freshman team last season.
Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) was named to the first team last year as well and took home freshman team honors in 2013 to give him his second consecutive All-WCC honor. The Waves' junior second-baseman hit .292 this season, leading the team and finishing second in the WCC with 12 home runs for the regular season. Moyer owns the fourth highest slugging percentage in the league at .557 and is tied for third with 44 runs scored. He has driven in a team-high 35 runs, also posting seven doubles and four triples. Moyer was named WCC Player of the Week twice this season.
McClelland (Beaumont, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) served as the Waves' Friday starter this season, compiling a 2.41 ERA to lead the team and finish the regular season fifth in the conference. McClelland went 6-3 on the mound this year, striking out 64 batters and allowing 35 walks in 86.0 innings pitched. Opponents his just .238 against McClelland this year. He was also named to the All-WCC freshman team in 2013.
In his 20 starts in the outfield this year, Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) leads the team with a .313 batting average, hitting a pair of homers and driving in 18 runs. The freshman righty also made 17 relief appearances on the mound for the Waves, compiling a 2.95 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 21.1 innings of work.
The Waves' other freshman team honoree also made his contributions on the mound, with Wilson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) holding down a spot in the weekend starting rotation for the entire year. The lefty hurler went 7-3 on the mound in his 13 starts, posting a 3.80 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 83.0 innings pitched.
