SAN FRANCISCO - The Pepperdine men's tennis team, ranked #41 in the ITA rankings, opened its Northern California road trip with a 4-2 victory over #57 San Francisco. The Waves continue the weekend tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match at Santa Clara.

Pepperdine (12-8, 4-2 WCC) got the day started in doubles. Although USF got on the board first with a win at No. 2, Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim) and Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) tallied a win for the Waves at No. 3, defeating Thomas Takemoto and Vasco Valverde, 6-3.

In the deciding match, Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and Rakshay Thakkar (Pune, India/St. Vincent's High School) rose to a narrow 6-4 win over #47-ranked Nils Skajaa and Bernard Saraiva. It was the Pepperdine pair's third win over a ranked opponent this season.

San Francisco tied the score at 1-1 in singles before Marquard gave the Waves the lead once and for all with his straight-set triumph at No. 5. The freshman has won five of his last six.

Pane extended the lead to 3-1, dispatching Christian Brockstedt 6-4, 6-2.

The Dons scored once more, but Hadlich clinched the dual for the visiting squad at No. 1. The Waves' ace outlasted Saraiva in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4

Pepperdine closes out the road trip at Santa Clara on Saturday, April 4 at 2 p.m.
