MALIBU, Calif. -- The Pepperdine men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day for Rakshay Thakkar and Kento Tanaka-Tamaki with a 4-0 shutout vs. Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves conclude the regular season with a 15-8 overall record, including a second place 7-2 mark in West Coast Conference matches.

After honoring the seniors, the Waves and Gaels got the afternoon underway in doubles. Thakkar (Pune, India/St. Vincent's High School) and Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) paired up at No. 1 and defeated Arthur Weber and Thomas Hunt by a 6-1 tally.

Senior Tanaka-Tamaki (Kihei, Hawaii/St. Anthony Junior-Senior HS) and Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph over James Markiewicz and Wil Martin at No. 2.

Pepperdine kept it rolling in singles, and was in firm control on all six courts.

Thakkar earned his final victory on the home courts and downed Samuel Bloore, 6-1, 6-2

Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) lifted the Waves to a 3-0 advantage with his 6-1, 6-1 rout versus Hunt.

Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) yet again put Pepperdine out of reach at 4-0 with his straight-set triumph at No. 4. Iamachkine has posted the dual-clinching fourth point a team-high eight times this season, including the last three matches in a row

Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim), Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) and Hadlich were all up a set when action was suspended.

The Waves open postseason action next week with the WCC Tournament in San Diego. Pepperdine has earned a first-round bye and will pick up play on Thursday, April 23 in the quarterfinals.
