MALIBU, Calif. -- The Pepperdine baseball fell in extra innings on Tuesday to No. 10 USC, giving up a two-run single in the 12th inning to drop a hard-fought 2-0 decision.

The Waves put runners on in three of the last four innings, but couldn't push a run across against the Trojan relievers, leaving 13 runners on base. USC left 11 runners on before scoring the go-ahead runs in the 12th.

USC loaded the bases with no outs in the 12th, but Pepperdine reliever Max Gamboa (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais HS) battled back to get a strikeout and a lineout before Timmy Robinson looped a ball over shortstop to bring home the game-winning runs. Prior to that Gamboa struck out four batters through 2.0 innings of work.

The pitchers' duel between the two teams featured a combined nine pitchers. Kiko Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS) and Chandler Blanchard (Henderson, Nev./Coronado HS) each tossed 3.0 scoreless innings, with Blanchard matching Gamboa with a team-high four strikeouts.

Marc Huberman got the win for USC, striking out five batters and giving up three hits over the final 3.0 innings.

The Waves got a runner on in the ninth after a leadoff single by Aaron Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS), but couldn't get a runner past second after a lineout and a popout. Pepperdine got a runner to third in each of the next two innings, but each time Huberman got a strikeout to end the threat. The Waves loaded the bases in the 11th, but Huberman's third strikeout of the frame stranded all three runners.

Barnett finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate to lead all players. Brad Anderson (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) had a two-hit day for the Waves. Pepperdine had eight total hits in the game.

Adalberto Carrillo had the lone two-hit day for USC as the Trojans posted seven hits. USC moves to 27-9 on the year with the win.

The Waves fall to 20-18 with the loss. Pepperdine will be back in action this weekend when they host Saint Mary's for a three-game series.
