SOMIS, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's golf team is facing its biggest challenge yet to its active streak of West Coast Conference titles, as Gonzaga has opened up a two-shot lead after Tuesday's second round of the WCC Championships.

During the Waves' current run of 13 consecutive titles, this is only the second time that the squad hasn't been in first place at the end of a round, and it's the first time during this streak that it's happened after two rounds of play. The last time Pepperdine was in second place after two rounds was 2001.

The Waves had another tough round at the very difficult par-72 Saticoy Country Club, shooting a 312 for a two-day total of 623 (311-312). Four-fifths of the field is still in contention, as San Francisco (626) and Santa Clara (630) are just five and nine shots back, respectively, of Gonzaga (621).

The Waves, Bulldogs and Dons will tee off the first hole beginning at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday for the tournament's third and final round.

Junior Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS), who was the first-round leader, is now tied for fifth place at 154 (74-80). Freshman Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) is in eighth place at 156 (78-78), senior Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) is tied for ninth at 157 (80-77), freshman Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) is 12th at 158 (79-79) and senior Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) is tied for 21st at 166 (88-78).

Lee had a team-best total of three birdies on the day.
