SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Junior Hannah Turpin broke a seven-year-old Pepperdine school record in the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday as the Waves' track team competed at the Cal Poly Invitational.

Turpin (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon HS) ran a 1:07.03 at the event, close to a full second better than her previous best of two weeks ago, and breaking the record of 1:07.48 set by Amanda Ajdari in 2008.

"The highlight of the meet was Hannah getting the school record," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "We weren't sure how it was going to go because she was feeling ill in the morning, but we got up there and she was feeling better. She ran a really smooth, consistent race to break the record by a good margin."

Freshman Claudia Rodriguez (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet HS) ran season-best times for any Wave in the 100 and 200 meters, though her 12.73 in the 100 was wind-aided. She ran 26.52 in the 200.

Senior Lisa Santroch (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood HS) finished first among the three people competing in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 11:25.36.

Pepperdine's other top runners on the women's side were freshman Madison Blume (Glendora, Calif./St. Lucy's Priory HS) in the 400, sophomore Jordan Spencer (Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie HS) in the 800, sophomore Elle Lemco (San Jose, Calif./Prospect HS) in the 1,500, freshman Madelyn Whitaker (Parker, Texas) in the 5,000 and sophomore Tori Occhipinti (Coto de Caza, Calif./Crean Lutheran HS) in the 100 hurdles. Blume's 1:02.02 in the 400 was the best of any Wave this season.

For the men, it was sophomore Torin Wile (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) in the 800 and freshman Kyle Cajero (Tucson, Ariz./Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) in the 1,500.

Pepperdine next runs at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday (April 4).
