MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team dropped the rubber game against LMU on Sunday, falling 14-5 to the Lions at home.

LMU posted a season-high 17 hits, getting to the Waves for 10 runs in the fifth inning. Pepperdine had a 4-2 lead going into the fifth, but couldn't find a rally after the big frame for LMU.

After the Lions scored twice in the top of the first, Pepperdine came back with three runs in the third to grab the lead. Hutton Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) hit his fifth homer of the year, tying the game with a two-run shot, and then Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) singled in a run. Pepperdine added another in the fourth before the offensive explosion from LMU in the fifth.

The Lions had six hits in the fifth and drew two walks and three hit-by-pitches. Tanner Donnels led off the inning with a homer and then was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in two runs in the frame. Billy Wilson also added a bases-loaded triple.

Donnels had two homers on the day and was 4-for-4 at the plate, with three RBI. Austin Miller also had a four-hit day for LMU.

Kolten Yamaguchi (Kona, Hawai'i/Konawaena HS) hit his first homer of the year in the sixth for the Waves, but it was the last run Pepperdine would score. The Waves finished with nine hits, getting two from Moyer. Moyer led the team going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.

Trevor Megill picked up the win in relief after Pepperdine chased LMU starter Brenton Arriaga in the third inning. A.J. Puckett (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) took the loss for the Waves.

The loss drops Pepperdine to 11-14, 2-4 WCC, while LMU moves to 13-10, 4-2 WCC. The Waves hit the road for four games next week as they play at USC on Tuesday and then three games at Portland over the weekend.
