PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss to Portland today on the road. The Waves won the doubles point, but were unable to carry over the momentum in singles play.

With the loss, Pepperdine drops to 9-7, including a 2-1 mark in West Coast Conference matches. The Pilots, undefeated at home in 2015, move to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.

The Waves were solid and in control on all three doubles courts to open the dual. Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim) and Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) paired up for their third-straight win, downing Pierre Garcia and Mathieu Garcia, 6-2.

Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) and Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) secured the point with a 6-4 triumph over Kent Andreasen and Michail Pervolrakis.

Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and Rakshay Thakkar (Pune, India/St. Vincent's High School) were up 5-4 in their match when action was suspended.

The Pilots' tennis facility only has three courts, so the No. 1-3 flights played first. Portland won all three matches in straight sets to take a 3-1 lead.

The No. 4-6 matches went on court next, but the outcome still went in the home squad's favor. Mathieu Garcia clinched the dual at 4-1 from his match at No. 4.

The Waves return to Malibu to host Washington on Tuesday, March 24 and BYU on Saturday, March 28.
