MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision at home against LMU on Friday, giving up four unearned runs in the loss.

LMU scored three unearned runs in the seventh to go ahead for good as the Waves found just one score in the eighth. The two teams will continue their series tomorrow at 1 pm.

Manny Jefferson (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS) drove in the first of his two runs in the second inning on a groundout to give the Waves a 1-0 lead. LMU came back with a pair of scores in the fourth, one of which was unearned, to take a 2-1 lead. It was again Jefferson that evened it for the Waves as the sophomore hit his fourth homer of the season to even the contest at two.

Both teams scored in the sixth as they would take a tie ballgame into the seventh inning. LMU's three scores in the seventh gave the Lions the lead for good. Jimmy Jack had the lone RBI for LMU as the other two runs scored on a double play and an error.

Pepperdine got a sac fly from Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) in the eighth, but went down in order in the ninth as J.D. Busfield picked up his seventh save of the year for LMU. Colin Welmon got the win for the Lions, improving to 3-3.

Jackson McClelland (Beaumont, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) suffered the loss despite giving up just two earned runs, falling to 3-2 on the year. McClelland struck out six in 6.0 innings of work. He exited with the bases loaded in the seventh.

Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) and Chris Fornaci (Walnut Creek, Calif./De La Salle HS) each had two-hit days for the Waves and Jefferson led the way with two RBI. David Fletcher and David Edwards each went 2-for-4 for LMU.

The Waves fall to 10-13, 1-3 WCC with the loss and the Lions move to 12-9, 3-1 WCC. Both games this weekend will be at 1 p.m.
