CORAL GABLES, Fla. - After falling behind 0-3 against Miami, the Pepperdine men's tennis team mounted an improbable comeback and posted four-straight wins in singles to take the dual, 4-3. Freshman Pedro Iamachkine rallied from a first-set loss to win in three and clinch the victory for the Waves.

The Hurricanes got off to a hot start, taking the doubles point with wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) and Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) won at No. 3 to avoid the sweep.

Miami extended its lead, posting two straight-set wins in singles, while holding a one-set advantage in two of the remaining four matches.

Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) got a point on the board for Pepperdine, dispatching Christian Langmo, 6-3, 6-3. Hadlich is now a perfect 4-0 in dual play this season.

At No. 3, senior Rakshay Thakkar (Pune, India/St. Vincent's High School) also won in straight sets, delivering a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Henrique Tsukamoto.

With the Waves still down 2-3, Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim) stumbled in his first set, 2-6, but bounced back with a vengeance. He took the next two frames from Andrew Harrington, 6-1, 6-1.

The deciding match came down to freshman Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) and sophomore Bernard Tefel. Tefel edged Iamachkine, 10-8, in the first-set tiebreaker, before the Wave stayed alive with a 6-4 win in the second.

Iamachkine broke serve early in the final stanza, jumping out to a 4-2 advantage. With momentum on his side, the freshman continued to roll and won 6-2 to tally the dual-clinching point for Pepperdine.

The Waves host three matches next week, staring with a 2 p.m. contest vs. San Diego State on Wednesday, February 18. Pepperdine then welcomes in UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 21. First serve between the Anteaters and Waves is set for 10 a.m. Pepperdine and LMU tangle at 3 p.m.
