Feb. 11, 2015 WCC RELEASE
MALIBU, Calif. - The 2015 WCC Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll and All-Conference team was announced today and Pepperdine picked to finish second. Hutton Moyer was also named to the Preseason All-Conference squad.
The Waves tallied 72 total points in the coaches poll, with three first-place votes, to sit behind cross-town rival LMU (77 points, 6 first place). San Diego received the remaining first-place vote. The defending champion Waves were picked second in the preseason poll last year as well.
Moyer made the preseason list as an infielder and was one of 10 position players selected after starting all 61 games at second for the team last year. He was third on the team with a .306 batting average and was fourth in the WCC with 15 stolen bases. Moyer also led the team and WCC, and was seventh in the nation with 24 doubles on the year.
Pepperdine won its 17th WCC regular-season crown last year and then swept to the conference tournament to make its 28th NCAA postseason appearance. The Waves then won the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Regional to make their first NCAA Super Regional appearance since the round was instituted in 1999. The Waves finished last year 43-18 overall and 18-9 in WCC play.
Pepperdine opens the 2015 season on Friday when Tulane comes to town for a three-game series.
