PROVO, Utah - On a cold and rainy Thursday night in Utah, the Pepperdine women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 13 BYU in a West Coast Conference match.
The loss drops the Waves to 8-7-2 overall and 3-4 in WCC play. BYU improves to 13-2-2, 5-1-1 WCC.
The Cougars got on the board in the 32nd minute thanks to Elena Medeiros' first goal of the game. BYU outshot the Waves 16-2 in the half.
Meghan Schoen (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood HS) did put a ball on target early in the opening period, sending a shot on goal in the 14th minute that was saved by Rachel Boaz.
Coming out of the break, BYU would jump on top 2-0 thanks to a Brittain Dearden goal. Dearden took a rebound off a Pepperdine defender and sent it home for her first score of the year.
Medeiros made it 3-0 with her second score of the game, putting home her seventh goal of the year on a through ball in the box.
The Waves did put four balls on target in the second half, but couldn't squeeze anything past Boaz to mount a comeback.
Hailey Harbison (Rancho Penasquitos, Calif./Westview HS) and Schoen had a chance for the Waves in the 53rd minute. Harbison followed a Schoen shot that was saved with a strike of her own, but Boaz was again there for the stop. Harbison led the team with four shots in the game.
Maddie Lyons had seven shots for the Cougars.
